Case Study | Airbus | Mobile App
A world-first aircraft maintenance app for an aviation superpower
Introduction
Rapid innovation for a global aerospace leader and an international fleet of aircraft.
OnePRESS lets a maintenance engineer check an aircraft’s tyres from their phone in seconds, instead of a slower manual check.
As lead designer at Newicon, I took it from an Airbus workshop to a working clickable prototype, on brand and to their detailed specifications.
The challenge
A world first, on a tight deadline.
Airbus had a new idea and needed it proven fast. The real challenge: make the tyre check simple and trustworthy enough that airlines would adopt it over their manual process. I worked through their documentation and requirements and quickly turned the idea into sketched and wireframed prototypes.

The solution
One simple, trusted flow.
The brand name ‘OnePRESS’ said it all: keep it simple. I cut the process down further, combining six steps into one clear, simple UI, the kind of experience that gets airline staff to trust it and choose it over manual checks. It has since been tested with airline staff, who are very happy with the results.
The product
Ready for take off.
We moved from the clickable prototype into a front-end prototype in HTML and CSS. I worked with the developer to create animations that guided the user and kept the app simple.
The results
Won the contract. Cleared for airline evaluation. Rolled out in 2025.
My designs won Newicon the build contract with Meggitt. OnePRESS became the first wireless, safety-critical system to go through an In-Service Evaluation with Airbus’s airline customers, before rolling out to major airlines.
Client testimonial
Deliverables have exceeded our expectations.
There was no precedent for the Landing Gear Design Office to start from. Newicon quickly understood how to complement our capability, and adapted to suit our needs. Changes were very reactive and converged to a very attractive design.
